     C.A. Indians' types of work were farmwork, building, and making food. Spanish priests taught religion and Spanish language to the Native Americans. Spanish soldadoes protected the missions, pueblos, and presidios. At sunrise, a bell rang to signal church service was starting.The Native Americans and Catholic priests attended mass. After church, the adults (C.A. Indians) went to work. They mostly grew corn and plants to eat and keep themselves from starving. The Chumash grew fruit, orchards, vineyards, and gardens. The Chumash didn't want to live with the natives near other missions.
